How to get a Mel­de­be­schei­ni­gung or An­mel­de­be­stä­ti­gung in Germany #

A Meldebescheinigung is an official confirmation of your registered address in Germany essentially a certified copy of your original Anmeldebestätigung (registration certificate).

You might need a Meldebescheinigung to:

• Replace a lost Anmeldebestätigung
• Provide recent proof of your address (for example, to banks, landlords, or government offices)

If you have never registered your address before, you must first complete an Anmeldung (address registration) at the Bürgeramt before you can request this document

How to Get a Meldebescheinigung (Anmeldebestätigung) #

You can request your Meldebescheinigung e.g in Berlin online or in person at the Bürgeramt (citizen’s office). It’s free online, or €10 in person.

Option 1: Request Online #

You can download your Meldebescheinigung instantly as a PDF. To use the online service, you’ll need:

• A registered address in your city
• A valid eID (for example, a plastic residence permit, German passport, or Personalausweis with online ID function)

Visit the official your city Service Portal to submit your online request.

Option 2: Request In Person #

If you prefer to go in person:

1. Book a Bürgeramt appointment.
   You can choose any Bürgeramt in Berlin.
2. Bring the following:

• • Your passport or Personalausweis
  • €10 fee (payment methods vary usually Girocard, Visa, or Mastercard)

You’ll receive your Meldebescheinigung immediately during the appointment.

Extended Registration Certificate (Erweiterte Meldebescheinigung) #

An erweiterte Meldebescheinigung includes additional personal details, such as:

• Previous addresses
• Registered spouse and children

This version is rarely required the standard Meldebescheinigung is sufficient in most cases.

How to request an Erweiterte Meldebescheinigung #

Option 1: In Person #

Book an appointment at your local Bürgeramt, and bring your passport or Personalausweis.

Option 2: By Email or Online #

You can also request it by email the Bürgeramt will mail it to you.

Follow below steps:

1. Find your Bürgeramt’s contact page. You’ll find their email address and bank details there.
2. Transfer €10 to their bank account. Include this payment note: erweiterte Meldebescheinigung [your full name]
3. Email your request.
4. Attach the documents:
   • A copy of your passport or Personalausweis
   • Proof of bank transfer

If you only need to prove your address (for example, for a bank or visa renewal), a regular Meldebescheinigung is almost always enough you don’t need the extended version.
