Welcome to Germany! Your Arrival Made Easy #
Whether you’re here to study, work, or explore new opportunities — you’ve just landed. Let’s make your first steps smooth and stress free.
Step 1: Getting From the Airport to Your New Home #
As soon as you collect your bags, your next mission is: “How do I get to my accommodation?”
Option 1: Public Transport (Budget-Friendly & Efficient) #
Germany has one of the best public transport systems in the world. Here’s how to use it:
Types of Transport: #
- S-Bahn – Suburban trains (great for airport-city connections)
- U-Bahn – Underground metro
- Buses – Frequent, great for short distances
- Trams – Especially in cities like Berlin, Munich, Leipzig
- Regional Trains – For nearby towns or other cities
Apps to Download: #
- BVG App (Berlin only) – Shows metro, bus, and tram connections in real-time.
- DB Navigator App – For long-distance and intercity trains all over Germany.
Tickets – Where to Buy? #
- Ticket Machines – Found at airport train/bus stations. Use cash or card.
- Physical Ticket Counters – Located in major airports (for help and guidance)
- Buy via App – Easiest way if you have mobile data or Wi-Fi access.
Tip: Always validate your paper ticket before boarding (look for a small blue or red machine on the platform).
Option 2: Taxis & Ride Apps (Comfortable & Direct) #
If you’re tired or carrying a lot of luggage, you can go for a taxi or ride-hailing app:
- Uber – Works just like anywhere else.
- FreeNow – A popular ride app in Germany.
- Bolt – Another reliable option.
Pick & Drop Service – If you’ve pre-booked a transfer (e.g. through our platform), your driver will meet you with a sign at arrivals.
Expect to pay:
- Around €25–€45 for a city-center ride from the airport, depending on the city.
- Most taxis accept cards, but it’s always good to have some cash.
Quick Pro Tips for a Smooth Arrival #
- Have your accommodation address saved (preferably printed or in Google Maps).
- Check if your SIM card works, or buy a prepaid SIM at the airport.
